The Morehouse College Office of International Education (OIE) offers a diverse range of study abroad programs that aim to broaden students’ academic, cultural, and professional horizons. In the summer of 2022, OIE successfully conducted seven faculty-led programs, with 67 students and 14 faculty/staff participating across six countries: South Africa, Senegal, Colombia, Nigeria, Germany, and Portugal.
The main programs included:
Oprah Winfrey South Africa Leadership Program: Focused on leadership, global perspectives, and understanding the socio-political landscape of South Africa.
South Africa Social Justice Experience: Provided deep insights into social justice, leadership, and public health, including the causes and impact of the HIV/AIDS crisis.
Nigerian Entertainment Industry Program: Introduced students to the dynamic worlds of Afrobeats music and Nollywood films through direct engagement with artists and filmmakers in Nigeria. This program also marked the first collaboration between Morehouse and University of Nigeria, Nsukka.
Senegal at the Crossroads: Democracy, Religion & Development: Combined academic learning and service, giving students hands-on experience in Senegal’s historical, cultural, and socio-economic development.
Morehouse Pan-African Global Experience (MPAGE), Colombia: Offered immersive exploration of the African diaspora’s influence in Colombia, with visits to key cities and integration with an academic course.
Germany STEM/Enterprise Launch Study Tour: Exposed students to Germany’s science, technology, engineering, math, and business sectors through visits to research institutes, universities, and business enterprises, alongside cultural immersion.
Morehouse Global Innovation & Entrepreneurial Thinking (European Innovation Academy, Portugal): Engaged students in a hands-on entrepreneurial academy, teaching them how to create and launch startup businesses in a global context.
Spring 2022 programs also saw Morehouse students studying in England and Portugal, returning with new global perspectives.
